Ash Wednesday Service
재의 수요일예배는 한국어와 영어를 사용하는 회중을 위한 한영예배 자료로 쓰여 졌셨습니다.
이 예배는 한국어 회중과 영어 회중이 함께 예배드릴 때 사용할 수 있고, 각 회중이 따로 예배드릴 때도 사용할 수 있습니다.

예수님의 고난을 묵상할 수 있는 성가나 찬송을 연주하거나 들려준다.
초대의 말씀
그리스도 안에 있는 형제자매 여러분, 초대 기독교인들은 우리 주님의 고난과 부활을 목격하고 경험하였습니다. 그리하여 기독교인들은 부활절을 기념하기 전 40일 동안 영적으로 준비하는 전통을 지켜왔습니다. 우리는 예수 그리스도의 자비와 용서를 받아 우리의 신앙을 새롭게 해야 합니다. 이 시간 주님의 이름으로 여러분을 거룩한 사순절의 여정으로 초대합니다.
예배로의 부름
인도자: 어린이나 젊은이나 노인이나 누구든지 하나님 앞에 나와 자신을 거룩하게 하십시오.
회중: 우리는 하나님의 말씀을 듣기 위해 여기에 모였습니다.

생명의 하나님, 우리는 사순절 첫날에, 우리의 유한성을 인정하면서 하나님 앞에 나왔습니다. 우리의 마음과 입술과 행동으로 지은 모든 죄를 회개합니다. 우리의 죄악된 행동으로 인해 부서진 마음을 주님의 용서와 치유로 회복하여 주소서. 주님의 자비와 은혜를 통해서, 우리의 실수와 허물을 씻어 주시고 새로운 삶으로 인도하여 주소서. 사랑과 긍휼이 많으신 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

재의 성호
집례자는 이마에 재를 바르면서 “회개하고 복음을 믿으십시오”라고 말한다.
십자가에 띠 매달기
예배 전에 나누어 준 자기의 죄를 상징하는 띠(약 30cm길이)를 제단 앞에 세워놓은 십자가에 매단다. 이 예식은 어린양이신 예수께 자기 죄를 맡기며 대속의 은혜를 경험하게 한다.

Invitation to the Observance of Lent
Siblings in Christ, the early Christians witnessed and experienced the suffering and resurrection of our Lord. Thus, Christians have kept the tradition of forty days of spiritual preparation before celebrating Easter. We must renew our faith through the mercy and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. In the name of the Lord, I now invite you to the journey of holy Lent.
Call to Worship
Come, young and old, sanctifying yourselves before God. We’re here to listen to God.
Come before the Lord. Do not hesitate to return to God.
We’re here in the presence of God.
Pray to God and ask for God’s mercy.

Opening Prayer
God of life, we come before you on this first day of Lent, acknowledging our mortality. We repent of all the sins we have committed with our hearts, words, and actions. Forgive, heal, and restore our hearts broken by our sins. May your mercy and grace wash away our sins and wrongs and lead us to a new life. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, who is full of love and compassion. Amen.

Thanksgiving over the Ashes
Almighty God, you created us from the dust of the earth. May these ashes, the symbol of dust, be a sign of our death and penance. Help us remember that eternal life can only come from Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.
Imposition of Ashes
While making a sign of the cross on the forehead of worshipers, the pastor says, “Repent, and believe the gospel.”
Hanging of a Ribbon on the Cross
The ribbon (about one foot long) symbolizing one’s sins, handed out before the service, is hung on the cross in front of the altar. The purpose of this ceremony is to help people experience the grace of forgiveness by entrusting their sins to Jesus, the lamb of God.

Rev. Dr. Yongyeun Lee studied theology at the Methodist Theological University in Seoul, Korea (BTh & MTh). He completed the M.T.S. and M.Div programs at Perkins School of Theology and received a Ph.D. in church history at the Chicago Theological Seminary.
