“The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!'” [MATTHEW 21:9]
“Hosanna” literally means “Save us now!” The crowds in Jerusalem were shouting for a political revolution, a King who would break the Roman yoke. They wanted a savior who would change their circumstances. However, Jesus rode in on a donkey, not a warhorse, signaling a different kind of salvation. He didn’t come to change the government; He came to change the human heart. During this Holy Week, we must ask ourselves: What kind of “Hosanna” are we shouting? Are we asking God to fix our problems, or are we asking Him to save us from ourselves? True Palm Sunday faith is welcoming the King even when He doesn’t meet our earthly expectations. ‘호산나’는 문자적으로 “지금 우리를 구원하소서!”라는 뜻입니다. 예루살렘의 무리들은 정치적 혁명을, 로마의 멍에를 꺾어줄 왕을 기대하며 소리쳤습니다. 그들은 자신들의 환경을 바꿔줄 구원자를 원했습니다. 그러나 예수님은 군마가 아닌 나귀를 타고 입성하시며 전혀 다른 종류의 구원을 예고하셨습니다. 그분은 정부를 바꾸러 오신 것이 아니라, 인간의 마음을 바꾸러 오셨습니다. 이번 고난주간 동안 우리는 스스로에게 물어야 합니다. “나는 어떤 ‘호산나’를 외치고 있는가?” 하나님께 내 문제를 해결해달라고 떼쓰고 있습니까, 아니면 나 자신으로부터 나를 구원해달라고 간구하고 있습니까? 진정한 종려주일의 믿음이란, 주님이 우리의 세속적 기대를 충족시키지 않으실 때조차 그분을 왕으로 영접하는 것입니다. 사순절 종려주일 묵상
