☞ 종려주일의 의미
종려주일(Palm Sunday)은 예수에서 예루살렘으로 승리의 입성을 하셨을 때 종려나무 잎사귀를 사용한 데서 유래되었습니다(요 12 :13) 예수님의 승리의 예루살렘 입성을 기념하기 위해 지키는 주일로 부활절 전 주일이며 고난주간이 시작되는 주일입니다.
예수님께서 부활하시기 전 예루살렘에 입성하실 때 군중이 자기들의 겉옷을 길에 펴고 종려나무 가지를 베어 펴면서 “호산나 다원의 자손이여”하고 환호성을 올리던 사실을 기념하는 주일입니다(요 12 : 13, 계 7 : 9) 호산나라는 뜻은 히브리어 ‘호시안나'(Hosianna)라는 말을 헬라적 표현으로 발음한 것인데 뜻은 ‘이제 우리를 구원하소서’ 또는 “부디 우리를 구원해 주십시오”라는 기도입니다(시 118 : 25, 삼하 14 : 4, 시 20 : 9, 마 21 : 9, 막 11 : 9, 요 12 : 13)
예수님께서 예루살렘성에 입성하실 때에 사람들이 종려가지를 들고 호산나라고 부른 사건 때문에(요 12:12, 13)우리 기독교인들은 이 종려나무(히브리어 ‘타마르’ 영어 ‘Date Palm’)를 흔들며 종려주일에 주님의 십자가사건을 기억합니다.
☞ The Meaning of Palm Sunday
On Palm Sunday Christians celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the week before his death and resurrection. For many Christian churches, Palm Sunday, often referred to as “Passion Sunday,” marks the beginning of Holy Week, which concludes on Easter Sunday.
The Bible reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and covering his path with palm branches. Immediately following this great time of celebration in the ministry of Jesus, he begins his journey to the cross.
