📖 2 Kings 5:8-19
People usually panic when things do not go the way they expect. Naaman, commander of the army of the King of Aram, encountered such a case. Naaman was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, but his leprosy was his weakness. His leprosy was not by accident but was planned by God. The LORD had given victory to Aram through Naaman and made him a great man. (5:1) But God gave him leprosy to lower him and made him seek Elisha the prophet of Israel.
Naaman had to overcome several obstacles in order to experience what God had in store for him. He had to tune his thoughts to God’s. Naaman visited the prophet Elisha with large amounts of precious gifts to seek a cure from him but was treated differently from what he had expected. The prophet Elisha did not bother to come out to greet Naaman and did not accept any gift. But Naaman was told through a messenger to go to the Jordan river and wash his body seven times.
Naaman went away angry and said, “I though…“, he thought that Eli- sha would come out to him and wave his hand over the spot and cure him of his leprosy. (2 Kings 5: 11) Fortunately for him, Naaman was persuaded by his servants and followed the advice of the prophet and washed his body seven times in the Jordan river. His leprosy was cured. Only then did Naaman understand and praise the LORD. (2 Kings 5:14)
In order to experience God’s plan for us, we need to abandon our thoughts, discern and accept God’s thoughts, and live accordingly. People of God are those who discern and accept God’s thoughts. Only then we can experience the grace of God according to His plan.
