16And at the end of seven days, the word of the LORD came to me: 17“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 18If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 19But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul. 20Again, if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits injustice, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. Because you have not warned him, he shall die for his sin, and his righteous deeds that he has done shall not be remembered, but his blood I will require at your hand. 21But if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning, and you will have delivered your soul.” 22And the hand of the LORD was upon me there. And he said to me, “Arise, go out into the valley, and there I will speak with you.” 23So I arose and went out into the valley, and behold, the glory of the LORD stood there, like the glory that I had seen by the Chebar canal, and I fell on my face. 24But the Spirit entered into me and set me on my feet, and he spoke with me and said to me, “Go, shut yourself within your house. 25And you, O son of man, behold, cords will be placed upon you, and you shall be bound with them, so that you cannot go out among the people. 26And I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be mute and unable to reprove them, for they are a rebellious house. 27But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD.’ He who will hear, let him hear; and he who will refuse to hear, let him refuse, for they are a rebellious house.
16이레가 지난 다음에 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. 17“사람아, 내가 너를 이스라엘 족속의 파수꾼으로 세웠다. 그러므로 너는 내가 하는 말을 듣고, 나를 대신하여 그들에게 경고하여라. 18가령 내가 악인에게 말하기를 ‘너는 반드시 죽을 것이다’ 할 때에, 네가 그 악인을 깨우쳐 주지 않거나, 그 악인에게 말로 타일러서 그가 악한 길을 버리고 떠나 생명이 구원 받도록 경고해 주지 않으면, 그 악인은 자신의 악한 행실 때문에 죽을 것이지만 그 사람이 죽은 책임은 내가 너에게 묻겠다. 19그러나 네가 악인을 깨우쳐 주었는데도, 그 악인이 그의 악한 행실과 그릇된 길을 버리고 돌아서지 않았다면, 그는 자신의 악행 때문에 죽을 것이다. 그러나 너는 네 목숨을 보존할 것이다. 20또 만약 의인이 지금까지 걸어온 올바른 길에서 떠나서 악한 일을 할 때에는, 내가 그 앞에 올무를 놓아, 그 의인 역시 죽게 할 것이다. 네가 그를 깨우쳐 주지 않으면, 그는 자기가 지은 그 죄 때문에 죽을 것이다. 그리고 그가 이미 행한 의로운 행실은 하나도 기억되지 않을 것이다. 그러나 그 사람이 죽은 책임은 내가 너에게 묻겠다. 21그러나 의인이 범죄하지 않도록 네가 깨우쳐 주어서, 그 의인이 범죄하지 않았으면, 그는 경고를 달게 받았기 때문에 반드시 살게 되고, 너도 네 목숨을 보존할 것이다.” 22거기서 주님의 능력이 내 위에 내렸다. 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. “일어나서 들로 나가거라. 거기에서 너에게 할 말이 있다.” 23그래서 내가 일어나 들로 나가서 보니, 그 곳에는 주님의 영광이 머물러 있었는데, 전에 그발 강가에서 보던 영광과 똑같았다. 나는 땅에 엎드렸다. 24그 때에 주님의 영이 나의 마음속으로 들어오셔서 나를 일으켜 세우시고, 나에게 이렇게 일러주셨다. “너는 집으로 가서 문을 잠그고 집 안에 있거라. 25너 사람아, 사람들이 너를 밧줄로 묶어 놓아서, 네가 사람들에게로 나가지 못할 것이다. 26더욱이 내가 네 혀를 입천장에 붙여 너를 말 못하는 사람으로 만들어서, 그들을 꾸짖지도 못하게 하겠다. 그들은 반역하는 족속이기 때문이다. 27그러나 내가 너에게 다시 말할 때에, 네 입을 열어 줄 것이니, 너는 ‘주 하나님이 이렇게 말씀하신다’ 하고 그들에게 말하여라. 들을 사람은 들을 것이고, 듣기를 거절하는 사람은 거절할 것이다. 그들은 반역하는 족속이기 때문이다.”

God appointed Ezekiel as a watchman for the house of Israel and warned him that God would hold him responsible for the consequences that would arise if he did not properly deliver God’s word (vv. 16-21). Additionally, Ezekiel was to stay within his house except when God opened his mouth, and his tongue would be made to cling to the roof of his mouth so that he could not speak otherwise. Ezekiel would become a watchman for the Israelites to deliver God’s will and warn them about God’s judgement (vv. 22-27).
하나님은 에스겔을 이스라엘 족속의 파수꾼으로 세우시며 그가 이스라엘 족속에게 하나님의 말씀을 제대로 경고하지 않으면 그 결과에 대한 책임을 에스겔에게 지우겠다고 하십니다(16-21절). 또한 에스겔은 하나님이 입을 열어주실 때를 제외하고는 집 안에만 머물러야 할 뿐 아니라 밧줄에 묶여 있어야 하고, 혀가 입천장에 붙어 말을 하지 못하게 됩니다. 에스겔은 이스라엘 백성에게 하나님의 뜻을 대변하고 심판을 경고하는 파수꾼의 역할을 하게 될 것입니다(22-27절).
Who is God?
Vv. 22-23 God gave Ezekiel an experience of the glory of God before sending him into the fiery mission field. The corrupt wilderness-like state of Israel was reality, but God’s glory, which Ezekiel witnessed by the Chebar canal, was also reality. Are we experiencing God’s glory which can easily overcome any challenging reality?
