🏡Jesus’ Story: Parable 9/26/18
1That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed… 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.” Matthew 13:1-3,9
✍️Jesus spoke the parable of the sower. His story seems to be easy to hear and familiar, but still some secrets were hidden in that sowing story because Jesus added, “Whoever has ears, let them hear.” Everyone has two ears, but why did He say, “Whoever has ears…” Which means whoever choose to listen through their ears, let them understand the parable. What is parable? It’s simple story; but the meaning of the Kingdom of God and His abandoned blessings were hidden in the story. When the disciples asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” Jesus replied in v. 11-13, “The knowledge of secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been hidden in the parable, given to you, but not to them. Whoever has, will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has, will be taken from him. This is why I speak to them in parables: “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.”
Psalm 78:2 says, “I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden old things from the creation of the world.” The entire Bible is like the parables with very simple easy stories; but each understands a different portion of the meanings by each one’s ability. How can we expand our capability to understand the Word more? We need 3 things: 1 Eagerly Desire: positive covet; 2 Read and study the word; 3 Ask help of the Holy Spirit to understand the meaning of parables. One of many works of the Holy Spirit is interpreting the Scripture in the Bible to us by the request.
Now we all are invited to the Jesus’ church. We may easily miss the Sunday worship or the meeting of the Bible study group because of our busy schedule or personal matter. However, if we are fully understanding of the meaning of the seed as Jesus own life; He was suffering and broken Himself on the cross to give us His new born life, we would think His word and listen to Him more seriously with humble and grateful heart. Jesus’ life is much worthier than our own life matter. Amen.(Rev Insook Do)
