Real Treasure Sarah Eom (California)
The word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.” – Genesis 15:1 (NIV)
An investment that would have provided me with a comfortable income did not work out. Consequently, I took a job that gave me a good income but also came with some challenging situations. Whenever the pressure at my job increased, I would feel regret and chagrin at the investment that could have saved me from this headache.
Recently, during worship, I poured out my heart in prayer, saying, “Lord, why didn’t it work out?” God didn’t answer directly but did nudge me with the thought: Sarah, your greatest treasure is me. Your greatest asset is building a record of my faithfulness and goodness toward you. Then I understood. Yes, it would have been “easier” to provide for myself through the investment rather than through this job that put me in uncomfortable situations. But every day God’s been helping me, giving me protection, comfort, and wisdom — real help that I cannot deny. What I need most is to know that our good and faithful God is with me. Nothing is more valuable than knowing from experience that God is trustworthy.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, help us to trust that your faithfulness will last throughout eternity. Amen.
