시(Psalms) 23:1-6
여호와 하나님을 목자로, 자신을 양으로 비유한 시편 기자 다윗은 하나님께서 자신을 푸른 풀밭에 누이시고 쉴 만한 물가로 인도하신다고 고백했습니다.
사실 고대 근동 지역에서 푸른 풀밭은 이상적인 환경을 뜻하는 상징이었습니다. 쉴 만한 물가 또한 양 떼가 안전하고 편안하게 물을 마실 수 있는 장소를 의미했습니다. 그러니 가장 이상적이고 안전한 곳으로 인도하시는 목자 하나님의 손길 가운데서 다윗은 참된 안식과 생명을 누릴 수 있었습니다. 특히 목자로부터 세밀하게 보살핌을 받고 메마른 땅 한가운데서도 충분한 물을 마실 수 있는 만족과 기쁨을 경험했습니다.
그런 점에서 우리 또한 주님을 목자로 모시고 살아갈 때 푸른 풀밭과 쉴 만한 물가에 해당하는 복되고 풍성한 삶을 누릴 수 있습니다. 특히 자기 스스로 생계를 책임지고 보호받을 곳을 찾아 헤매는 인생이 아니라 목자 되시는 하나님께서 친히 책임져 주시는 인생이 될 것입니다.
그러므로 이제 여호와 하나님을 나의 목자로 고백하며 그분을 따라 푸른 풀밭, 쉴 만한 물가로 나아가시길 기도합니다.
Psalms 23:1-6
David, the psalmist who likened Jehovah God to a shepherd and himself to a sheep, confessed that God makes him lie down in green pastures and leads him beside still waters. In fact, in the ancient Near East, green pastures were a symbol representing an ideal environment. Still waters also signified a place where a flock of sheep could drink safely and comfortably.
Therefore, David was able to enjoy true rest and life under the care of God the Shepherd, who leads him to the most ideal and safe places. In particular, he experienced the satisfaction and joy of receiving meticulous care from the Shepherd and being able to drink sufficient water even in the midst of a parched land.
In this sense, when we live with the Lord as our Shepherd, we too can enjoy a blessed and abundant life corresponding to green pastures and still waters. Specifically, it will not be a life where one wanders in search of protection while taking responsibility for one’s own livelihood, but a life where God, the Shepherd, personally takes responsibility for one’s life.
Therefore, I hope and pray you will now confess Jehovah God as your Shepherd and follow Him to green pastures and still waters.
