“Seek the Lord while he may be foundo; call on him while he is near.” [Isaiah 55:6]
We often think of “seeking the Lord” as a religious duty we can schedule for a convenient time. We relegate God to the margins of our lives, expecting Him to wait patiently until we have satisfied our own ambitions. But this verse conveys a divine urgency—a holy impatience of God reaching out to a wandering humanity.
“While He may be found” is not a threat that God is about to hide, but a reminder that our own hearts are prone to hardening. The tragedy of the human soul is that it becomes “deafened” to the voice of God through the constant accumulation of worldly noise and self-will. To seek Him is to recognize that He is the only true center of our existence. God is not distant, yet He invites us to move toward Him with the passion of a thirsting man. Are you treating the presence of God as a luxury, or as an absolute necessity?
“너희는 여호와를 만날 만한 때에 찾으라 가까이 계실 때에 그를 부르라” [이사야 55:6]
우리는 종종 ‘여호와를 찾는 것’을 편한 시간에나 할 수 있는 종교적인 의무로 생각하곤 합니다. 하나님을 우리 삶의 변두리로 밀어내고, 우리 자신의 야망을 다 채운 뒤에 그분께서 인내심을 가지고 기다려 주시기를 기대합니다. 그러나 이 구절은 하나님의 거룩한 안타까움, 즉 방황하는 인류를 향해 손을 뻗으시는 하나님의 긴박한 갈망을 담고 있습니다.
“만날 만한 때”라는 말씀은 하나님이 곧 숨어버리시겠다는 위협이 아니라, 우리 자신의 마음이 무뎌지기 쉽다는 경고입니다. 인간 영혼의 비극은 세상의 소음과 자기 고집이 계속 쌓임으로써 하나님의 음성에 ‘귀가 먹게’ 된다는 것입니다. 그분을 찾는다는 것은 그분만이 우리 존재의 유일한 참된 중심임을 인정하는 것입니다. 하나님은 멀리 계시지 않지만, 목마른 자가 물을 찾듯 열정을 가지고 그분께 나아오라고 우리를 초청하십니다. 당신은 하나님의 임재를 사치품으로 여기고 있습니까, 아니면 절대적인 필요로 여기고 있습니까?
