Your soul clings to Him because He has first laid hold of you. It is not your strength that maintains the relationship; it is His sovereign grace. When you are in “a dry and parched land where there is no water” (v.1), your own grip will eventually fail. Fatigue, sorrow, and the pressures of life will numb your fingers. It is in those moments of exhaustion that you discover the profound reality—you are being upheld by a Hand that never grows weary. Faith is not the struggle to stay suspended in the air; it is the act of falling back into the arms of God and finding them unshakable. Stop worrying about the strength of your “clinging” today and rest in the absolute security of His “upholding.”

당신의 영혼이 그분께 매달리는 이유는 그분이 먼저 당신을 붙잡으셨기 때문입니다. 관계를 유지하는 것은 당신의 힘이 아니라 그분의 주권적인 은혜입니다. 당신이 “물이 없어 마르고 황폐한 땅”(1절)에 있을 때, 당신 자신의 움켜쥔 힘은 결국 바닥나고 말 것입니다. 피로와 슬픔, 삶의 압박은 당신의 손가락을 마비시킬 것입니다. 그 모든 기력이 소진된 순간, 당신은 비로소 심오한 실재를 발견하게 됩니다. 즉, 결코 지치지 않는 손이 당신을 받치고 있었다는 사실입니다. 믿음이란 공중에 떠 있으려 몸부림치는 것이 아니라, 하나님의 팔 위로 자신을 던져 그 팔이 얼마나 견고한지 확인하는 것입니다. 오늘 당신이 얼마나 잘 ‘매달려’ 있는지 걱정하는 일을 멈추고, 당신을 ‘붙드시는’ 그분의 절대적인 안전함 속에서 안식하십시오.
