May We Be Filled with the Anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Scripture: Zechariah 4:6–7
Key Verse: “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,” says the LORD Almighty. (6)
In the Burgundy region of France stands the magnificent and ornate “Abbey of Cluny.” Once the largest church structure in the world—and possessing such immense power that it produced several popes—it ultimately failed to reform itself and succumbed to secularization. As a result, it has now been reduced to nothing more than a national stud farm and a tourist attraction.
In contrast, the nearby “Taizé Community”—though housed in humble, unassuming buildings—continues to draw crowds of young people from all over the world who flock there, yearning for grace. If we seek to reform others yet fail to transform ourselves, we are destined to end up in a desolate state, much like the Abbey of Cluny.
The background of today’s scripture passage from the Book of Zechariah is set during the period when the people of Israel, having returned from their exile in Babylon, were attempting to rebuild the ruined Temple in Jerusalem. Although they began with great ambition, the construction project stalled for sixteen years due to interference from surrounding nations and their own internal limitations. The people fell into a state of helplessness, and a spirit of defeatism—the mindset that “we cannot do this”—came to dominate them. It was at that very moment that God delivered a message to Zerubbabel.
The message was this: we must realize that true change is not achieved through human strength, but solely through the power of the Holy Spirit. As declared in verse 6: “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit.” Here, “strength” refers to military might or organizational power, while “ability” signifies the individual effort and zeal of human beings.
It is only when we realize that a task lies beyond the reach of human wisdom or resources that we finally turn to rely upon the Holy Spirit. The secret behind David’s ability to stand before Goliath was not found in his own weaponry, but in his reliance upon “the name of the Lord of Hosts.” When confronted by the wall of despair that stands in our way, we require a posture of faith that declares: “You come against me with sword and spear, but I come against you in the name of the Lord.”
During this season of Lent, let us lay aside our own efforts and experiences, seeking instead the compelling and powerful work of the Holy Spirit alone. I pray in the name of the Lord that you may experience—and be challenged by the truth—that the transformation we pray for in our own lives, in our families, and in our faith community is accomplished solely through the Spirit of God.
Reflection Question: Is there any area of your life—marked by past defeat or a sense of inadequacy—that you feel unable to even attempt again?
Prayer: Almighty God and Father, grant that I may not be a fool who relies on my own strength and ability; rather, let me follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, entrust myself to Your divine work, and be filled with moments of encountering You at every turn. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

성령의 기름 부으심이 충만케 하소서.

핵심구절: “만군의 여호와께서 말씀하시되 이는 힘으로 되지 아니하며 능력으로 되지 아니하고 오직 나의 영으로 되느니라”(6)
프랑스 부르고뉴 지방에는 화려하고 웅장한 ‘클뤼니 수도원’이 있습니다. 한때는 세계 최대의 교회 건축물이었고 교황을 여럿 배출할 만큼 막강한 권력을 가졌지만, 스스로를 개혁하지 못하고 세속화된 결과 지금은 국립 종마 사육장이나 관광지로 전락하고 말았습니다.
반면 인근의 ‘떼제 공동체’는 허름한 건물이지만 지금도 전 세계 젊은이들이 은혜를 갈망하며 구름 떼처럼 몰려듭니다. 남을 개혁하고자 하면서도 스스로를 변화시키지 못하면 클뤼니 수도원처럼 초라해질 수밖에 없습니다.
오늘 본문 스가랴서의 배경은 바벨론 포로 생활을 마치고 돌아온 이스라엘 백성들이 무너진 예루살렘 성전을 재건하려던 시기입니다. 야심차게 시작했지만, 주변의 방해와 내적인 한계로 인해 공사는 16년 동안이나 중단되었습니다. 백성들은 무력감에 빠졌고, “우리는 안 된다.”는 패배주의가 그들을 지배하고 있었습니다. 바로 그때 하나님께서는 스룹바벨에게 말씀을 주셨습니다.
변화는 인간의 힘이 아니라 오직 성령의 능력으로만 가능함을 깨달아야 한다는 것입니다. 6절에 “이는 힘으로 되지 아니하며 능력으로 되지 아니하고 오직 나의 영으로 되느니라”고 선포하였습니다. 여기서 ‘힘’은 군사력이나 조직력을 의미하고, ‘능력’은 인간 개개인의 노력과 열심을 뜻합니다.
인간의 지혜나 자원으로 할 수 없다고 느낄 때, 우리는 비로소 성령님을 의지하게 됩니다. 다윗이 골리앗 앞에 설 수 있었던 비결도 자신의 무기가 아니라 ‘만군의 여호와의 이름’을 의지했기 때문입니다. 우리를 가로막고 있는 절망의 벽 앞에서 “너는 칼과 단창으로 나오지만, 나는 여호와의 이름으로 나간다.”는 믿음의 태도가 필요합니다.
이번 사순절, 나의 노력과 경험을 내려놓고 오직 성령님의 강권적인 역사하심을 구합시다. 우리가 기도하는 나의 변화, 가정의 변화, 그리고 믿음공동체의 변화는 오직 하나님의 영으로만 이루어짐을 경험하고 도전하시기를 주님의 이름으로 기도합니다.
묵상질문: 내 삶의 패배와 언약함으로 다시 시도조차 하지 못하는 것이 있나요?
기 도: 전능하신 하나님 아버지, 나의 힘과 능력을 의지하는 어리석은 자가 아니라, 성령의 역사하심을 따라가며 하나님의 역사에 나를 맡기며 매순간 하나님을 만나는 시간이 충만하게 하옵소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
