꿈을 회복한 사람
계(Revelation)
21:1-7
사도 요한은 성령에 이끌려 크고 높은 산으로 올라가 하늘에서 내려오는 거룩한 성 새예루살렘을 보았습니다. 바벨론이 멸망하고 짐승들과 용이 패망한 후, 보게된 장면입니다.
“또 내가 보매 거룩한 성 새 예루살렘이 하나님께로부터 하늘에서 내려오니 그 준비한 것이 신부가 남편을 위하여 단장한 것 같더라“(계21:2)
하나님께서 사도 요한에게 보여주신 모든 환상과 계시의 목적은 힘들고 지쳐, 꿈을 잃은 하나님의 백성들에게 ‘꿈’을 보여주는 것입니다. ‘장차 될 일’의 가장 중요한 포인트이기도 합니다.
하늘에서 내려온 거룩한 성 새 예루살렘은 ’신부가 남편을 위하여 단장한 것‘같은 ‘꿈의 도시‘였습니다. ’새 예루살렘‘은 꿈의 회복을 상징입니다. 옛 예루살렘이 아니라 새 예루살렘입니다.
장소는 같은데 의미가 다른 이유는 바로 ’꿈을 회복한 도시‘이기 때문입니다. 그 옛날 이스라엘이란 이름이 처음 붙여진 야곱이 ‘루스’에서 돌을 베고 잠들었을 때 꾸었던 ’사다리 꿈‘과 동일한 꿈입니다.
야곱은 ‘발꿈치를 잡은 자‘라는 이름입니다. 수단과 방법을 가리지 않고 성공을 위해 살아가던 야곱의 모습은 우리의 모습을 상징합니다. 치열한 삶에 지쳐 꿈을 잃고 낙망한 모습입니다.
너무도 생생한 꿈에서 깨어난 야곱은 하나님께서 자기에게 나타나 말씀하셨다는 것을 알고 두려워합니다. 그 두려움은 ‘하나님이 여기에 계셨는데 알지 못했다는 것’에 기인했습니다.
그리하여, 베개로 삼았던 돌을 가져와 기둥으로 세우고 그 위에 기름을 붓고 그 곳 이름을 ‘벧엘’이라고 합니다. ‘루스’(살구나무)에서 ‘벧엘’(하나님의 집)이 된 것입니다.
’루스’는 ‘평범한 일상의 장소‘를 상징합니다. 바로 그곳이 하나님이 계신 벧엘(하나님의 집)이 된 것입니다. 더 이상 예루살렘이 아니라 ’새 예루살렘‘입니다. 꿈을 회복한 도시이기 때문입니다.
우리가 있는 이곳이 바로 루스가 아니라 벧엘이고 ’새 예루살렘‘입니다. 지금 처한 그곳에 기름 부으십시오. 그리고 다시 시작하십시오. ’꿈을 회복한 도시‘가 여기 있습니다. ‘꿈을 회복한 사람’이 여기 있습니다. 샬롬 !

거룩한 성 새 예루살렘을
보게 하소서
이곳에 기름을 붓고
다시 시작하게 하소서

A Person That Has Recovered Its Dream
Revelation 21:1–7
The apostle John, led by the Holy Spirit, was taken up to a great and high mountain, where he saw the holy city, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. This is the scene revealed after Babylon has fallen and the beasts and the dragon have been defeated.
“I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” (Revelation 21:2)
The purpose of all the visions and revelations God showed to John was to give a dream to God’s people who were weary, exhausted, and had lost hope. This is the heart of what Scripture calls “what must soon take place.”
The holy city coming down from heaven—the New Jerusalem—was a city of dreams, “prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” The New Jerusalem symbolizes the restoration of hope and vision. It is not the old Jerusalem, but the new Jerusalem.
Though the location may appear the same, its meaning is entirely different—because it is a city that has recovered its dream. This is the very same dream Jacob once had long ago at Luz, when he lay down with a stone for a pillow and dreamed of a ladder reaching to heaven.
Jacob, whose name means “the one who grasps the heel,” represents a person who pursued success by any means necessary. His life reflects our own—worn out by struggle, drained by relentless effort, and emptied of dreams.
When Jacob awoke from that vivid dream, he was filled with awe, realizing that God had been there speaking to him—though he had not known it. His fear came from this realization: “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.”
So Jacob took the stone he had used as a pillow, set it up as a pillar, poured oil on it, and named that place Bethel—the house of God. What had been Luz (meaning “almond tree”) became Bethel.
Luz represents an ordinary, everyday place. Yet that very place became Bethel—the dwelling of God. It was no longer merely Jerusalem, but the New Jerusalem, because it had become a city where dreams were restored.
The place where we now stand is no longer Luz, but Bethel. It is the New Jerusalem. Anoint the place where you are. Begin again. The city that has recovered its dream is here.
O Lord,
Let us behold the holy city, the New Jerusalem.
Let us anoint this place
and begin again.
