I am really touched and gree what John Wesley said when he was 75 years old so I share it here!

“I heard … ‘Once in seven years I burn all my sermons for it is a shame if I cannot write better sermons now than I did seven years ago.’ Whatever others can do, I cannot.
I cannot write a better sermon on the Good Steward, than I did seven years ago: I cannot write a better on the Great Assize, than I did twenty years ago: I cannot write a better on the Use of Money, than I did near thirty years ago: Nay, I know not that I can write a better on the Circumcision of the Heart, than I did five-forty years ago.
Perhaps indeed I may have read five or six hundred books more than I had then, and may know a little more History, or Natural Philosophy, than I did; but I am not sensible that this has made any essential addition to my knowledge in Divinity. Forty years ago I know and preached every Christian doctrine which I preach now. – John Wesley

“누군가로부터 이런 말을 들었다. ‘나는 7년 마다 한 번씩 내 모든 설교를 불태운다. 7년 전에 했던 설교보다 더 좋은 설교를 준비하지 못한다는 것은 부끄러운 일이기 때문이다.’ 남들이 할 수 있는 일을 나는 잘 못한다.
나는 7년 전에 했던 ‘선한 청지기’ 설교보다 더 좋은 설교를 할 수 없다. 20년 전에 준비했던 ‘대 심판’보다 더 좋은 설교를 할 수 없다. 거의 30년 전에 했던 ‘돈을 사용하는 법’ 설교보다 더 좋은 설교를 할 수 없다. 45년 전에 했던 ‘마음의 할례’ 설교보다 더 좋은 설교를 쓸 수도 없다.
그 때로부터 지금까지 약 500-600권 정도의 책을 더 읽었기에 역사나 자연 철학에 대해서는 조금 더 알게 된 것이 분명하지만, 이것들이 하나님에 관한 지식에 그 어떤 본질적 요소도 추가하지 않았다. 40년 전의 나는 지금 내가 설교하고 있는 모든 그리스도인들의 교리를 알았고 선포했다.”
