With Jesus(4) Jun 22 Tuesday

English QT (Jun 22, Tuesday)

(2 Kings 6:14-19, Fear and confidence of the blind)

How reliable are our eyes? The King of Aram mobilized forces to capture the prophet Elisha. When the servant of the prophet saw the city surrounded by horses and chariots and the army, he de- spaired. But Elisha said, “Don’t be afraid,” (6:16) and he prayed to God to open the eyes of his servant. Then the spiritual eyes of the servant were open and he saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Then as the enemy came down toward him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, “Strike these people with blind- ness.” So He struck them with blindness, and they could not see. The fear of Elisha’s servant came from the blindness of his spiritual eyes. When his spiritual eyes were open and he could see the re- ality, his fear vanished. Though they should be fearful, the Aramean army was belligerent because they were spiritually blind. But God made them physically blind and their blindness caused them to be fearful.

What is the existential cause of our fear today? May it be because we do not see the army of God that protects us? Though our phys- ical eyes may not see it, faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1) When we trust the Word of God and follow His teachings, our spiritual eyes will be opened and we can see what God is actually doing.

🎶 Open my eyes Oh
