October 6 A daily prayer during the COVID 19

October 6, 2020

A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis

During these difficult days, members of the Seacoast District of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today’s Prayer

Based on Psalm 106: 1-6 and 19-23
Dear Lord,
We thank you that in these difficult times of COVID-19, you call us to love and to serve, not only with our words, but with our presence and actions. We give you honor, praise and thanksgiving for you are good. Allow us, your children, in times like these to put our hope and to shout joyfully to you, the rock of our salvation, for your love and mercy endures forever.
We thank you Lord for the honor to proclaim your mighty acts and to declare your praise to the world even when it hurts. We know it is not easy to live with the pandemic, but you tell us in your words, over and over again, not to be afraid.
May your Holy Spirit show us how to love others, act justly and do what is right for the sake of your son Jesus.  Remember your people, Lord, and show favor to them. May you, Lord, come to our aid, heal and save your people from this pandemic, in order that we may enjoy the health and prosperity you promised your chosen ones.
Forgive us, Lord, for failing you. We admit that we have sinned against you, even more than our ancestors did.  We have ignored you, cursed and acted wickedly, both with our words and actions. Like our ancestors who made a calf at Horeb and worshiped it, we have also worshipped things other than you, God. We have exchanged your glorious presence and honor bestowed on us, for things that do not satisfy our craving souls. We abandoned the God who saved us. The God who showed us great things and performed miracles and healing among us.
Remember your promise, Lord, to save your people. Have mercy on us your people, my Lord! And do not allow the pandemic to destroy us. May your Son Jesus, the holy and chosen one, continue to stand between us your people and the pandemic, so, that your wrath may not consume us. In the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen!
