✍🏼 국가기도의 날(National day of prayer)을 맞아
오늘 5월 7일 목요일은 국가를 위한 기도의 날입니다.
국가기도일은 북미대륙의회가 미합중국을 만든 1775년으로 거슬러 올라갑니다. 초대 대통령 조지 워싱턴의 요청으로 시작되어 나라에 어려움과 위기가 닥칠때마다 미국의 대통령들은 교회와 국민들에게 나라를 위해 기도하기를 부탁하였습니다. 그 이후 1798년 존아담스 대통령이 프랑스와의 전쟁중에 나라를 위해 기도를 부탁했고 1863년 아브라함 링컨 대통령이 남북전쟁 후 황폐화된 나라의 회복을 위해 금식하며 기도하는 날로 정했습니다.
공식적으로 1952년 해리 트루먼 대통령이 ‘나라를 위한 기도의 날’(National Day of Prayer) 법안(Bill)에 서명함으로써 시작되었습니다. 그 후 1988년 로날드 레이건 대통령재임시 연방정부에 의해 매년 5월 첫 번째 목요일을 국가기도의 날로 정하고 지금까지 지켜오고 있습니다. 이 날은 금식과 겸비의 날(The day of fasting and humiliy)로 불려지기도 합니다. 로날드 레이건 대통령은 국가기도의 날을 선포하면서 이렇게 말한 적이 있습니다.
“워싱턴 장군이 밸리포지 전투에서부터 지금까지 이 나라는 앞으로 나아가야 할 역사의길을 가면서 하나님의 인도하심을 간절히 간구해 왔습니다. 이 국가기도의 날을 통해 우리는 축복의 근원이 하나님이심을 확인하는 기회와 앞으로 직면하게 되는 도전 앞에서 하나님의 도움을 구하는 것입니다.”
코로나로 인해 전세계가 혼돈과 마비상태에 빠져있는 지금 나라와 민족을 위한 기도가 절실한 때입니다. 이 땅의 위기는 코로나로 인한 경제의 위기만이 아닙니다. 낙태법, 총기, 마약, 알코올, 도박, 동성애 성범죄, 가정과 교회, 기업과 회사, 국가 이기주의, 총체적이고고질적인 황폐증에 빠져있는 영적위기입니다.
이스라엘 초대 사사요 선지자였던 사무엘은 ‘나는 너희를 위하여 기도하기를 쉬는 죄를여호와 앞에 결단코 범치 아니하고 선하고 의로운 도로 너희를 가르칠 것인즉(삼상12:23)“라고 말했습니다.
이 시대만큼 나라와 민족, 교회와 성도를 위한 기도자들을 필요로 하는 때는 없습니다. 하나님은 코로나를 통해 계속되는가정과 자녀, 나라와 민족의 존폐를 위태롭게 하는 엄청난위기속에서 하나님의 뜻을 깨닫고 하나님께로 돌아오도록 끊임없이 음성을 들려주고 계십니다.
백악관을 기도실로 바꾼 아브라함 링컨대통령과 같이 미국의 대통령과 위정자들(행정부장관들, 대법원 판사들, 상하원의원, 군지도자들, 주지사)이 머리가 아닌 무릎으로 세워져나아가기를 간절히 소원하시는 것입니다.
하나님께서 오늘 우리들에게 원하시는 것은 1%의 변화입니다. 1%의 변화의 책임이 우리에게 있다면 99%의 기적은 하나님의 몫입니다.
창조적인 소수의 인원이라 할지라도 합심하여 나라와 민족을 위한 기도의 자리를 지켜 나아갈 수만 있다면 하나님은 오늘도 저희들을 강력한 엔진으로 사용하셔서 암울한 터널을지나 밝은 역사의 새벽을 열어주시리라 믿습니다
🔖10 GUIDELINES for Prayer in these COVID-19 times
1. PEACE
Pray against spirits of division, egoism suspicion, anxiety, panic, and fear that grip our communities.
2. LEADERSHIP-
Pray for wisdom, truth, direction, compassion, and strength for all leaders (political, medical, economic, ecclesial, etc) in authority.
3. PROTECTION
Claim the blood of Jesus as a shield and healing over people groups, institutions, systems, policies, processes, and over all areas of life and society against COVID-19 and its effects.
4. IMMUNITY
Daily speak strength and health to immune systems (personal, family, friends, etc.)
5. RESOURCES
Pray for sufficient human and medical resources for our healthcare systems and sufficient and necessary resources for all other sectors (i.e. financial) and institutions (i.e. schools).
6. TESTING
Pray for a prompt, expedient, efficient, and sufficient, production, distribution, administration, and interpretation of tests locally so that leaders may realistically ascertain the scope of the problem and be equipped with strategies and resources to address the problem thoroughly and speedily.
7. STRATEGIES
Pray for the deployment of effective strategies for identifying epicenters and centers of the disease’s proliferation, for social distancing, for judicious and humane regional, local, and home-based quarantining that would level off the rate and intensity of occurrences, for home-based and institutional treatment of the sick, for accurate contact tracing, and for all other epidemiological issues and solutions.
8. RESEARCH
Pray for all types of researchers to develop an expeditious, effective, sufficient, affordable, well-tested, and safe production of a CV-19 vaccine and treatments.
9. INSTITUTIONS RESTORED
Pray for all of the institutions and systems impacted by this crisis (the church, gov’t, healthcare, schools, the economy, businesses, law enforcement and other first responders, and all other workplaces) that they would be protected and restored to normal healthy functioning.
10. SALVATION
Pray that we all come to a place of true repentance and total dependence on God for all things and that God would release to this world. protection, provision, healing, restoration, strength, salvation and all things that pertain to life and godliness. Time for the church to be the church and embody and minister wisdom and love in all we do. Be a Kingdom witness.
“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,` declares the LORD”(Jeremiah 30:17)
