1Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. 2Give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever. 3Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever; 4to him who alone does great wonders, for his steadfast love endures forever; 5to him who by understanding made the heavens, for his steadfast love endures forever; 6to him who spread out the earth above the waters, for his steadfast love endures forever; 7to him who made the great lights, for his steadfast love endures forever; 8the sun to rule over the day, for his steadfast love endures forever; 9the moon and stars to rule over the night, for his steadfast love endures forever; 10to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, for his steadfast love endures forever; 11and brought Israel out from among them, for his steadfast love endures forever; 12with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for his steadfast love endures forever; 13to him who divided the Red Sea in two, for his steadfast love endures forever; 14and made Israel pass through the midst of it, for his steadfast love endures forever; 15but overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea, for his steadfast love endures forever;

Who is God like?
Thinking & Understanding
The poet urged the people to praise God for his steadfastness. The phrases ‘God is the greatest of all gods’ and ‘the Lord is the Lord of all lords’ emphasise that God is the one and only God, who alone deserves worship (vv. 1-4). God created the heavens and the earth and the sun and the moon by his hand and wisdom so that mankind could live comfortably (vv. 5-9). God led the Israelites from oppression in Egypt by his strong and mighty arm, divided the Red Sea so that they could cross over it, and overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the water (vv. 10-15).
시인은 하나님의 인자하심을 찬양하라고 합니다. “모든 신들 가운데 가장 크신 하나님”, “모든 주 가운데 가장 크신 주님”이라는 표현은, 하나님만이 경배를 받을 수 있는 유일무이하신 분임을 강조합니다(1-4절). 하나님은 지혜와 솜씨로 하늘과 땅 그리고 해와 달을 만드셔서 인간이 평안히 살 수 있게 하셨습니다(5-9절). 이스라엘을 이집트의 억압에서 강한 권능의 팔로 이끌어내 홍해를 갈라 건너게 하시고, 바로의 군대는 물속에 수장하셨습니다(10-15절).
Who is God?
Vv. 1-4 There is no god or lord to whom God can be compared. The Lord was faithful to his covenant with his people, according to his good nature. He also sent his son, Jesus, and made a new covenant with us. It is by this grace that we, today, are able to live as children of God, the Lord of Creation. How much do we love God, who loves us this much?
하나님과 비교할 수 있는 신들이 없고 주도 없습니다. 여호와께서는 선하신 성품을 따라 자기 백성들과 맺은 언약에 신실하셨습니다. 또한 아들 예수님을 보내서 새 언약을 맺어주신 은혜로 오늘 우리가 창조주 하나님의 자녀로 살고 있습니다. 이 같은 사랑을 베푸시는 하나님을 나는 얼마나 사랑하고 있습니까?
What lesson is God teaching me?
Vv. 5-9 God created and governs the world with his wisdom. He subdued the powers of chaos and confusion – ‘water’ and ‘darkness’ – and created and governs harmony and order. Even the smallest movements in nature around us are the result of God’s amazing providence, fulfilling our most basic needs. Let’s give thanks for God’s steadfastness.
지혜로 세상을 지으셨고 또 주관하고 계십니다. 혼돈과 혼란의 세력인 ‘물’과 ‘어둠’을 다스려 조화와 질서를 만들어내시고 주관하십니다. 자연의 작은 움직임까지 우리가 살아갈 수 있는 가장 기본적 요건들을 채워주시는 하나님의 놀라운 섭리입니다. 그분의 인자하심에 감사합시다.

Lord, we lift our praises to you, our good and steadfast God, who cares for us.
