1 The allotment of the people of Joseph went from the Jordan by Jericho, east of the waters of Jericho, iinto the wilderness, going up from Jericho into the hill country to Bethel. 2 Then jgoing from Bethel to Luz, it passes along to Ataroth, the territory of the Archites.
3 Then it goes down westward to the territory of the Japhletites, as far as the territory of Lower kBeth-horon, then to lGezer, and it ends at the sea. 4 mThe people of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, received their inheritance.5 The territory of the people of Ephraim by their clans was as follows: the boundary of their inheritance on the east was nAtaroth-addar as far as Upper Beth-horon,
6 and the boundary goes from there to the sea. On the north is oMichmethath. Then on the east the boundary turns around toward Taanath-shiloh and passes along beyond it on the east to Janoah, 7 then it goes down from Janoah to Ataroth and pto Naarah, and touches Jericho, ending at the Jordan. 8 From qTappuah the boundary goes westward to the brook Kanah and ends at the sea. Such is the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Ephraim by their clans,
9 together with qthe towns that were set apart for the people of Ephraim within the inheritance of the Manassites, all those towns with their villages. 10 However, rthey did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites have lived in the midst of Ephraim to this day but have been made sto do forced labor.
1요셉 자손이 제비를 뽑아 나누어 받은 땅의 남쪽 경계는, 여리고의 요단 강에서부터 여리고의 샘 동편에 이르고, 여리고에서부터 베델 산간지방으로 올라가는 광야에 이른다. 2그리고 베델에서부터 루스로 나아가서, 아렉 사람의 경계선을 지나 아다롯에 이른다. 3서쪽으로는 야블렛 사람의 경계선으로 내려가서, 아래쪽 벳호론 경계선을 지나 게셀에 이르고, 그 끝은 지중해에 미친다. 4요셉의 자손 곧 므낫세와 에브라임이 이 지역을 유산으로 받았다. 5에브라임 자손에 속한 여러 가문이 받은 땅의 경계선은 다음과 같다. 그들이 받은 유산의 경계선은 동쪽으로 아다롯앗달에서 위쪽 벳호론에 이르고, 6또 그 경계선은 서쪽으로 나아가 북쪽 믹므다에 이르고, 동쪽으로 돌아서 다아낫실로에 이르고, 그 곳을 지나 야노아 동쪽을 지난다. 7야노아에서부터는 아다롯과 나아라로 내려가다가, 여리고에 미쳐서는 요단 강으로 나아가고, 8또 답부아에서부터 서쪽으로 가서, 가나 개울을 따라 바다에 이르러 그 끝이 된다. 이것이 에브라임 자손의 지파에 속한 여러 가문이 받은 유산이다. 9므낫세 자손의 유산 가운데는 에브라임 자손 몫으로 구별된 성읍들과 그 주변의 마을들도 있었다. 10그러나 그들이 게셀에 사는 가나안 사람을 쫓아내지 않았으므로, 가나안 사람들이 오늘날까지 에브라임 지파와 함께 살며 종노릇을 하고 있다.

Thinking & Understanding
The descendants of Joseph, who were divided into the tribes of Manasseh and Ephraim, were the next to receive their inheritance by lot, after the tribe of Judah (see Gen. 48:5). The land received by the people of Joseph was fertile land at the heart of Canaan (v. 1). The people of Joseph receiving good land was the fulfilment of Jacob’s blessing (Gen. 49:25). The tribe of Ephraim receiving land before the tribe of Manasseh, the older son, was a reminder that Jacob blessed Ephraim laying his right hand (Gen. 48:14) (vv. 5-8). Like Judah, the tribe of Ephraim failed to fully conquer the land they had received as their inheritance (vv. 9-10).
므낫세와 에브라임 지파로 구성된 요셉 자손은 유다 지파 다음으로 제비를 뽑아 기업을 분배받습니다(참조. 창 48:5). 요셉 지파가 받은 땅은 가나안 땅의 심장부에 위치한 비옥한 곳이었습니다(1절). 요셉 지파가 좋은 땅을 받게 된 것은, 과거 야 곱의 축복이 성취된 것입니다(창 49:25). 장자 지파인 므낫세 지파보다 에브라임 지파가 먼저 땅을 분배받은 것도, 에브라 임에게 오른 손을 얹어 기도한 야곱의 기도를 기억하게 합니다(창 48:14) (5-8 절). 에브라임 지파도 유다 지파처럼 분배 받은 땅을 온전히 점령하는 데는 실패합니다(9-10절).
Who is God?
Vv. 5-9 Circumstances, such as disabilities, being of lowly birth, and rank, are not an issue when it comes to God’s work. Ephraim, the second son, received the blessing of the firstborn from Jacob (Gen. Ch. 48) by the sovereign grace of God. Are we thankful that God has accepted us as his children and is fulfilling his plans through us?
하나님의 사역에는 비천한 출생도, 장애도, 지위도 전혀 문제되지 않습니다. 차자인 에브라임이 야곱으로부터 장자의 축복을 받은 것은(창 48장) 하나님께서 에브라임에게 베푸신 주권적인 은혜입니다. 그 하나님이 나를 자녀 삼아주시고 나를 통해 하나님의 역사를 만들어가고 계심에 감사하고 있습니까?
What lesson is God teaching me?
V. 10 The tribe of Ephraim let the Canaanites live as slaves. They went against God’s will for the sake of their own convenience. Have we ever broken not just God’s law but even human law for the sake of our own benefit? God regards obedience to his word as more important than our immediate convenience.
에브라임 지파는 가나안 족속을 남겨두어 자신들의 종으로 삼았습니다. 자신들의 편의를 위해서 하나님의 뜻을 어긴 것입니다. 나 자신의 유익을 위해 하나님의 법은 물론이고 세상의 법을 어긴 적은 없나요? 내게 당장 불편을 끼칠지라도 하나님 말씀에 순종하는 것을 더 중요하게 여깁시다.

Help us, Lord, not to tolerate sin for the sake of personal profit, but to joyfully share our gains with others.
