Washington Korean Church Council and Incheon Christian Hospital Sign MOU for Medical Mission and Community Care
The Washington Area Korean Church Council (President Rev. Taekrae Lee) visited Incheon Christian Hospital (Director Elder Hyungki Kim) on April 24 and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation in healthcare, community welfare, and medical mission outreach for the Korean community.
Under the agreement, pastors affiliated with the Washington Korean Church Council and their families will receive health screening benefits and discounted medical services. The partnership also includes reduced costs for comprehensive examinations such as CT, MRI, and MRA scans, additional treatment discounts, and collaboration on medical mission projects and community health initiatives. Applicants are required to complete registration and identity verification procedures before visiting Korea for medical services.
Director Hyungki Kim stated, “We hope this partnership will become an opportunity to share healing and hope with more people through both medical expertise and Christian compassion.”
Vice President Rev. Dr. Jaewoong Chang remarked, “This MOU represents more than medical benefits. It is the beginning of a cooperative ministry in which churches and hospitals work together to care for the lives of church members and local communities. We also hope this partnership will continue the legacy of early medical missionaries and connect it meaningfully to the Korean diaspora community in the United States.”
Founded in 1920 by American Methodist medical missionary Harry H. Schofield, Incheon Christian Hospital has a long tradition of integrating Christian faith with medical service. Through this agreement, both organizations plan to continue regular exchanges and develop collaborative programs including medical missions, health seminars, preventive medicine education, and support for underserved communities.

워싱턴지역한인교회협의회(회장 이택래 목사)는 지난 24일 인천기독병원(원장 김형기 장로)을 방문해 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다. 교회와 의료기관의 협력을 통해 한인들의 건강증진과 복지 향상 그리고 의료선교의 사명을 함께 감당하게 될 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.
주요 협약 내용은 워싱턴교협 소속 목회자와 가족 대상 건강검진 혜택 제공, 성도와 가족을 위한 우대 의료 서비스 지원, CT·MRI·MRA 등 종합검진 비용 할인 적용, 병원 진료 시 추가 할인 혜택 제공, 의료선교 및 지역사회 건강증진을 위한 공동 프로젝트 추진 등이다. 이러한 서비스를 이용하기 위해서는 한국 방문 전에 신청 양식을 작성하고 신원 확인 등의 절차를 거쳐야 한다.
김형기 원장은 “의료 전문성과 기독교 정신을 바탕으로 더 많은 이웃에게 치유와 희망을 전하는 계기가 되기를 바란다”고 밝혔다. 교협부회장 장재웅 목사는 “이번 MOU는 단순한 의료 혜택을 넘어 교회와 병원이 함께 지역사회와 성도들의 삶을 돌보는 연합 사역의 시작”이라며 “초기 의료선교의 정신이 오늘날 미주 디아스포라 한인공동체까지 이어지는 의미 있는 연결이 되길 기대한다”고 말했다.
인천기독병원은 1920년 미국 감리교 의료선교사인 Harry H. Schofield(서호필)에 의해 설립돼 복음과 의료를 함께 실천해 온 역사와 전통을 간직하고 있다. 이번 협약으로 워싱턴교협과 정기적인 교류 및 의료선교, 건강세미나, 예방의학 교육, 취약계층 지원 등 다양하고 지속적인 협력 관계를 이어갈 예정이다.
