Creator of the TV series <em>The Twilight Zone<\/em>, Serling wanted people to say of him, \u201cHe was a writer.\u201d Most of us can identify with Serling\u2019s desire to leave a legacy\u2014something to give our lives a sense of meaning and permanence.<\/p>\n<p>The story of Job shows us a man struggling with meaning amid life\u2019s fleeting days. In a moment, not just his possessions but those most precious to him, his children, were taken. Then his friends accused him of <em>deserving<\/em> this fate. Job cried out: \u201cOh, that my words were recorded, that they were written on a scroll, that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead, or engraved in rock forever!\u201d (<a class=\"rtBibleRef\" href=\"https:\/\/biblia.com\/bible\/niv\/Job%2019.23%E2%80%9324\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-reference=\"Job 19.23\u201324\" data-version=\"niv\" data-purpose=\"bible-reference\">Job 19:23\u201324<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Job\u2019s words <em>have<\/em> been \u201cengraved in rock forever.\u201d We have them in the Bible. Yet Job needed even more meaning in his life than the legacy he\u2019d leave behind. He discovered it in the character of God. \u201cI know that my redeemer lives,\u201d Job declared, \u201cand that in the end he will stand on the earth\u201d (19:25). This knowledge gave him the right longing. \u201cI myself will see him,\u201d Job said. \u201cHow my heart yearns within me!\u201d (v. 27).<\/p>\n<p>In the end, Job didn\u2019t find what he expected.
